WP 3: End-to-end ecosystem modelling of ecological tipping points in the HUS

In the WP3 the objective is to analyze the sensitivity of the HUS to “bottom-up” (climate change) and “top-down” (fishing pressure) forcing as well as the assessment of potential regime shifts (tipping points) and the impacts of crossing tipping points in the pelagic ecosystem and the assessment of early warning indicators. To do so the tasks are divided; first into the development of an end-to-end modelling of the Humboldt upwelling ecosystem (model coupling and evaluation, in collaboration with the CUSCO project), second by constructing tipping point scenarios in the HUS relating to fish production, environmental drivers and fishing pressure.
