For detailed information on the subject of data protection, please refer to our data protection declaration listed below this text.

Who is responsible for data collection on this website?

The responsible authority for the data processing on this web page results from the imprint. This office is the first point of contact for data protection questions.

How do we collect your data?

On the one hand, your data is collected by you communicating it yourself. This may involve data that you enter in a contact form or when ordering a newsletter.

Other data is automatically collected by our IT systems when you visit the website. These are mainly technical data (e.g. Internet browser, operating system or time of the page call). This data is collected automatically as soon as you enter our website.

Analysis of your data

When you visit our website, your surfing behaviour can be statistically evaluated. This is done primarily with cookies and so-called analysis tools. The analysis of your surfing behaviour is anonymous and cannot be traced back to you. You can object to this analysis or prevent it by not using certain tools. Details can be found in our data protection declaration under the heading "Third party modules and analysis tools".

What do we use your information for?

Some of the data is collected in order to ensure that the website is error-free.

With other data, we can statistically analyse your user behaviour on the Internet (e.g. via so-called cookies). Such analyses are anonymous and cannot be traced back to your person. You can object to this analysis. Details can be found in our data protection declaration under the heading "Third party modules and analysis tools".

What rights do you have with regard to your data?

You have the right at any time and free of charge to obtain information about the origin, recipient and purpose of your stored personal data. You also have the right to demand the correction, blocking or deletion of this data. You can contact us at any time at the address given in the imprint for this and other questions on the subject of personal data. Furthermore, you have the right to appeal to the responsible supervisory authority.

Is the transmission of your data encrypted?

Yes, this website uses encryption. This should prevent unauthorized persons from accessing your data.

I. General notes and mandatory information

The operators of these pages take the protection of your personal data very seriously. We treat your personal data confidentially and according to the legal data protection regulations as well as this data protection explanation.

If you use this website, various personal data will be collected. Personal data is data with which you can be personally identified. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect and how we use it. It also explains how and for what purpose this is done.

We would like to point out that data transmission over the Internet (e.g. communication by e-mail) can be subject to security gaps. A complete protection of the data against access by third parties is not possible.

Responsible office

The responsible authority for the data processing on this web page results from the imprint. The responsible body is the natural or legal person who alone or together with others decides on the purposes and means of processing personal data (e.g. names, e-mail addresses, etc.).

Right to object to data collection in special cases and to direct advertising (Art. 21 DSGVO)

If data processing is carried out on the basis of Art. 6 para. 1 lit. e or f DSGVO, you have the right at any time to object to the processing of personal data concerning you for reasons arising from your particular situation; this also applies to profiling based on these provisions. The respective legal basis on which a processing is based can be found in this data protection declaration.

If you lodge an objection, we will no longer process your personal data concerned unless we can prove compelling reasons worthy of protection for the processing which outweigh your interests, rights and freedoms or the processing serves the assertion, exercise or defence of legal claims.

If your personal data are processed for the purpose of direct advertising, you have the right to object at any time to the processing of your personal data for the purpose of such advertising; this also applies to profiling insofar as it is connected with such direct advertising. If you object, your personal data will no longer be used for direct marketing purposes.

Revocation of your consent to data processing

Many data processing operations are only possible with your consent. We will expressly obtain this from you before data processing begins. You can revoke this consent at any time. For this purpose, an informal e-mail notification to us is sufficient. The legality of the data processing operations carried out until the revocation remains unaffected by the revocation.

Right of appeal to the responsible supervisory authority

The website visitor is advised that in the event of violations of data protection laws, he has the right to lodge a complaint with the responsible supervisory authority. The responsible supervisory authority for data protection issues is the state data protection officer of the federal state in which our company has its headquarters. A list of data protection officers and their contact details can be found at the following link: https://www.bfdi.bund.de/DE/Infothek/AnschriftenLinks/anschriftenlinks-node.html

Right to data transferability

You have the right to have data which we process automatically on the basis of your consent or in fulfilment of a contract handed over to you or to another responsible person in a common, machine-readable format. If you request the direct transfer of the data to another responsible person, this will only be done as far as it is technically feasible.

SSL or TLS encryption

This site uses SSL or TLS encryption for security reasons and to protect the transmission of confidential content, such as requests you send to us as a site operator. You can recognize an encrypted connection by the fact that the address line of the browser changes from "http://" to "https://" and by the lock symbol in your browser line.

If SSL or TLS encryption is activated, the data you transmit to us cannot be read by third parties.

II. Data collection on our website

Cookies

Some of the Internet pages use so-called cookies. Cookies do not damage your computer and do not contain viruses. Cookies serve to make our offer more user-friendly, more effective and safer. Cookies are small text files that are stored on your computer by your browser.

You can set your browser so that you are informed about the setting of cookies and allow cookies only in individual cases, accept cookies for certain cases or generally exclude them and activate the automatic deletion of cookies when closing the browser. If cookies are deactivated, the functionality of this website may be restricted.

Most of the cookies we use are so-called "session cookies". They are automatically deleted at the end of your visit. Other cookies remain stored on your terminal until you delete them. These cookies enable us to recognize your browser during your next visit.

Cookies, which are necessary for the electronic communication process or for the provision of certain functions desired by you (e.g. shopping basket function), are stored on the basis of Art. 6 para. 1 lit. f DSGVO. The website operator has a legitimate interest in the storage of cookies for the technically error-free and optimal provision of its services. Insofar as other cookies (e.g. cookies for analysing your surfing behaviour) are stored, these are dealt with separately in this data protection declaration.

Server log files

The provider of the pages automatically collects and stores information in so-called server log files, which your browser automatically transmits to us. These are:

  • Browser type and browser version

  • used operating system

  • Referrer URL

  • Hostname of the accessing computer

  • Time of the server request

IP address

This data will not be merged with other data sources. We reserve the right to subsequently check this data if we become aware of concrete indications of illegal use. This data is collected on the basis of Art. 6 para. 1 lit. f DSGVO. The website operator has a justified interest in the technically error-free and optimal presentation of his website - for this purpose, the server log files must be recorded.

III. Third party modules and analysis tools

Google Web Fonts

This page uses so-called web fonts provided by Google for the uniform display of fonts. When you call up a page, your browser loads the required web fonts into its browser cache in order to display texts and fonts correctly. For this purpose, the browser you are using must connect to Google's servers. This enables Google to know that your IP address has been used to access our website. The use of Google Web Fonts is in the interest of a uniform and appealing presentation of our online services. This constitutes a legitimate interest within the meaning of Art. 6 para. 1 lit. f DSGVO.

If your browser does not support web fonts, a standard font will be used by your computer.

Further information on Google Web Fonts can be found at https://developers.google.com/fonts/faqund in Google's privacy policy: https://www.google.com/policies/privacy/

YouTube with Enhanced Data Protection

This website embeds videos from YouTube. The operator of these pages is Google Ireland Limited ("Google"), Gordon House, Barrow Street, Dublin 4, Ireland.

We use YouTube in the enhanced data protection mode. According to YouTube, this mode means that YouTube does not store any information about visitors to this website before they view the video. However, the transfer of data to YouTube partners is not necessarily excluded by the enhanced data protection mode. Thus, regardless of whether you view a video, YouTube establishes a connection to the Google DoubleClick network.

When you start a YouTube video on this website, a connection to YouTube's servers is established. This informs the YouTube server which of our pages you have visited. If you are logged into your YouTube account, you allow YouTube to directly associate your browsing behavior with your personal profile. You can prevent this by logging out of your YouTube account.

Furthermore, after starting a video, YouTube may store various cookies on your device or use comparable recognition technologies (e.g., device fingerprinting). In this way, YouTube can obtain information about visitors to this website. This information is used, among other things, to capture video statistics, improve user-friendliness, and prevent fraud attempts.

Subsequent data processing operations may be triggered after starting a YouTube video, over which we have no control.

The use of YouTube is in the interest of an attractive presentation of our online offers. This constitutes a legitimate interest within the meaning of Art. 6 (1) lit. f GDPR. If the appropriate consent has been obtained, the processing is based exclusively on Art. 6 (1) lit. a GDPR; consent can be revoked at any time.

Further information on data protection at YouTube can be found in their privacy policy at: https://policies.google.com/privacy?hl=en.

UMAP/OpenStreetMap

We use a map snippet from Umap (https://umap.openstreetmap.de/de/) on our website under "Research Areas & Stakeholders" to display stakeholder activities in the Humboldt Tipping Project. Umap is a mapping tool under an open-source license, which operates based on the German offering of OpenStreetMap (https://openstreetmap.de). In order to display the map, your IP address is forwarded to OpenStreetMap. You can view how OpenStreetMap stores your data on the OpenStreetMap privacy page here wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/DE:Datenschutz and here wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/DE:Legal_FAQ. The use of UMAP/OpenStreetMap is in the interest of an attractive presentation of our online offers. This constitutes a legitimate interest within the meaning of Art. 6 (1) lit. f GDPR.

OpenStreetMap is an offering of the OpenStreetMap Foundation:
