WP7: Stakeholder engagement and governance for sustainability transformations
PI: Prof. Dr. Michael Flitner (University of Bremen, artec Sustainability Research Centre)
Welcome to the second phase of WP7! We are diving into the social-ecological transformations amidst ongoing crises, focussing on small-scale fishers and scallop aquaculture in Sechura and Independencia bays. We want to address the questions:
How could the needed transformations and governance options look like, for different actors?
What experiences in this sense exist in particular among the small-scale fishers and scallop producers, and how can they be further developed?
How can we situate these options in globally consistent and regionally anchored HUS-SSPs scenarios?
We're exploring crisis development's transformative potential through ethnographic fieldwork methods. By examining how future HUS-SSPs scenarios intersect with cataloged crises and how they affect the development of small-scale fishers and scallop aquaculture, we aim to integrate local drivers into broader scales. This task will be carried out in collaboration with WP5 and will help us consider the local settings when evaluating alternative future pathways.
After exploring these alternative future pathways, we will search for the possibilities of change, asking what should be done to achieve sustainable transformations. We will focus on how small-scale fishers and scallop producers' adaptive capacities can drive positive change change during crises. We will explore governance changes and regional initiatives at different levels.
Our approach is participatory, involving stakeholders to grasp the importance of local knowledge and agency in the transformative process.
Stay tuned for updates!
